She went to several schools as her parents moved to different farms and graduated from Henderson High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Stephens, on November 20, 1960.

She was a member of the Nishna Valley Women’s Club and Just Us Girls Club. After raising her family, Ladonna worked at the Farm Bureau office in Malvern and then worked for 12 years as manager of the Macedonia branch of the Treynor State Bank.
