Kumpong Waymire, age 76, of Hastings, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Kumpong was born May 13, 1948, in Khon Kaen, Thailand, the daughter of Sing and Tee Kawjoompol. She attended school in Thailand and some nurses training. While in school, she used to help her father in his business of training kick boxers. She met Michael Waymire in 1973 when he was serving in the United States Air Force in Thailand. Kumpong and Michael were united in marriage on November 20, 1974, in Merced, California. They started their married life living in California and moved quite often during Michael's career. They lived in Michigan and Texas before moving back to California. Michael retired from the Air Force in 1991 and moved to Hastings, Iowa. Kumpong was a homemaker and was known for her wonderful Thai cooking. She was famous for her spring rolls. Everyone loved them. Kumpong was very strong-willed but had a playful spirit. Her family remembers her wonderful sense of humor. She also loved playing Bingo and going to the casino. She always seemed to be "lucky".
Preceding her in death were her parents; all her siblings; and her son: Kittipong Pilichai. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Michael Waymire of Hastings, IA; children: Jeffrey Waymire and wife Tina of Overland Park, KS; Jeremy Waymire and wife Crystal of Hastings, IA; and Tina Mischke and husband Marty of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Ben and Maya Waymire of Overland Park, KS; Tessa and Paislee Waymire of Hastings, IA; and Isabel Fuentes of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law: Deborah Hansen of Colon, NE; brothers-in-law: David Waymire and wife Celeste of Treynor, IA; Joel Waymire and wife Barbara of W. Des Moines, IA; and Tim Waymire and wife Mary of Elkhorn, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the North Grove Cemetery in Mills County, Iowa. Visitation and viewing with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel.
