Birthplace: Corning, Iowa Resided In: Council Bluffs, IA formerly Red Oak Kent L. Lane, age 83, of Council Bluffs, Iowa formerly of Red Oak passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs after an extended illness. Kent Leon Lane was born December 11, 1925 in Corning, Iowa the son of Brad and Geneva (Hess) Lane. He was raised in Prescott, Iowa where he graduated high school. He served in the Merchant Marines and later the Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hurd on December 2, 1949 at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Kent and Liz returned to Omaha, Nebraska where Kent worked for Union Pacific and also Roberts Dairy. They moved to Prescott, Iowa in 1959 where they owned and operated a bar and Kent farmed. In 1971 Kent and Liz moved to Red Oak. Kent was an auditor for the State of Iowa for many years retiring in 1982. They most recently were living at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Kent was a former Masonic Lodge Member, American Legion Member, and was a member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge for many years. He enjoyed baseball, horses, and playing cards. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters: Ailene Garrett and Ruth McCarrison; and two brothers: Neil Lane and Leo Lane. Survivors include his wife: Elizabeth Lane of Council Bluffs, Iowa; children: Bob Lane and wife Kathi of Omaha, Nebraska; Roxanne Grabowski of Crescent, Iowa; and Carol Brett and husband David of East Windsor, New Jersey; grandchildren: Brett Lane of Omaha, Nebraska; Bethany White and husband Tim of Omaha, Nebraska; Chris Lane of Omaha, Nebraska; Dana Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mark, Emily, and Peter Brett all of East Windsor, New Jersey; great grandchildren: Jaydan and Taryn White of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Lane of Omaha, Nebraska and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 - 10:30 AM Monday, May 18, 2009 prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. Interment services will be held 2 PM Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Bethany Lutheran Home. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
