Birthplace: Belleville, Kansas Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Kenneth Lee Kester, age 57, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away August 8, 2020 at his home. Kenny was born August 8, 1963 in Belleville, Kansas, the son of Theodore and Ada Faye (Bush) Kester. The family lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa before moving to Emerson, Iowa. Kenny attended school at Nishna Valley and later received his GED. He drove a truck for many years and later was a mechanic. He was a longtime Boy Scout leader and loved spending time with his grandkids. Kenny loved helping people and spent many years as a recovery coach and helping in many support groups. His hobbies included gardening and taking care of his faithful companions, Cami and Toad. Kenny was united in marriage to Geralyn Hughes and three children were born to this union: Scott, Malyssa, and Travis. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Malyssa Kester; and brothers: Michael and Dan Kester. Survivors include his significant other: Vicki Maschka of Emerson, IA; children: Scott Kester and Leigh Anne Slaughter of Red Oak, IA; Travis Kester and wife Sarah of Red Oak, IA; Jessica Cerra and husband Robert of Bellevue, NE; and James Maschka of Glenwood, IA; grandchildren: Haydn, Xhander, Jaileigh, Cole, Violet, Silas, and Tynlee; sister: Deb Shrum of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Faith Community Church. Viewing and visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. We will be following all social distancing guidelines and masks are requested. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
