Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Keith B. "Bud" Vanderhoof, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after an extended illness. Keith "Bud" Vanderhoof was born July 29, 1923 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of George Dewey and Georgia (Bailey) Vanderhoof. He was raised in Red Oak and lived all of his life in Red Oak. During World War II, Keith served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Hattie "Zearilene" Harding on February 14, 1946 in Seneca, Kansas. They purchased their acreage outside of Red Oak in 1947 and lived there for 50 years. Keith worked as the manager for the Wilson Lumber Company, worked at the Mercantile Elevator, and Johnson Brothers Construction. Keith was a carpenter for many years. He retired from Montgomery County as a Bridge Foreman. Keith enjoyed his grandchildren, collecting John Deere Memorabilia and raising exotic animals. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Zearilene Vanderhoof on March 5, 2004; 3 brothers: George, Robert, and Bill Vanderhoof; and a sister: Phyllis Lane. Survivors include his children: Diane Hicks and husband Jim of Red Oak, Iowa; Dennis Vanderhoof of Red Oak, Iowa; Jeff Vanderhoof and wife Amy of Villisca, Iowa; and Karla Bentson of Red Oak, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Barb Wilson, Allen Hale, Brian Hale, Bobbie Bruce, Kevin Vanderhoof, Rhonda Sowers, Deanna Evans, Daniel Vanderhoof, Lisa Vanderhoof, Scott Vanderhoof, Jill Vanderhoof, Ashley Bentson, and Bailey Bentson; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 4 sisters: Joy Kite and husband Jay of Whitney, Texas; Colleen Sands and husband Wayne of Red Oak, Iowa; Anna Mae Maples and husband Willis of Springfield, Missouri; and Betty Martinsen and husband Marty of Springfield, Missouri; 3 brothers: Darwin Vanderhoof of Marionville, Missouri; Dewey Vanderhoof and wife Ovella of Marionville, Missouri; and Allen Vanderhoof and wife Mary of Whitney, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Burgett officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
