Kathleen Marie Ebert, age 94, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Kathleen was born on a farm east of Tenville, Iowa on February 25, 1929, the daughter of Miles and Bertha (Hedstrom) DeVoss. She attended Country School prior to graduating from Villisca High School in 1946 as Valedictorian.
Kathleen attended Simpson College one year, worked for Tyler Brothers (Coca-Cola Bottling Co.) in Shenandoah for one year, and then began a 36 ½ year career with Union Carbide retiring February 1, 1985. She worked in the Manufacturing Office, Purchasing Department, was Plant Manager's Secretary, and then on the Exempt Payroll in Employee Relations, helping to hire, administer Benefit Plans, and more.
She was united in marriage to Jack Dilley on May 6, 1951, who worked with his folks at Red Oak Printing Co. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1972. On September 16, 1978, Kathleen was united in marriage to Harlan Ebert, Jr.
She was active in church work throughout the years, holding several offices, was on the Montgomery County Extension Committee, served as Secretary of the Library Board and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, as well as Assistant Treasurer of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer at the Lemon Tree Gift Shop, during her retirement.
Kathleen loved to read, do counted cross-stitch, played Bridge, and enjoyed the many friends made both during her working years and after retirement.
Preceding her in death were her parents, first husband: Jack Dilley; brother: Darwin DeVoss and his wife Juanita; brother-in-law: Blaine Donaldson; and nephew: Brent Donaldson; sisters-in-law: Funtella Quintana, Dorothy Carson, Nolene McLeod, Mellissa Winters, and Jacqueline Ebert. Survivors include her husband: Harlan Ebert of Red Oak; sisters-in-law: Dorothea Donaldson of Red Oak; Betty Lochbrunner of Red Oak; and Charlotte Palmquist of Stanton, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Red Oak Public Library.
