Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Mendon, MO formerly Red Oak Katherine A. Newlon McGuire, age 76, of Mendon, Missouri, formerly of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Brookfield, Missouri. Katherine Ann McGuire was born October 25, 1936 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Adolph and Dorothy (Hopkins) Holm. Katherine was raised in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. She was united in marriage to Billy Newlon on June 10, 1966 in Red Oak, Iowa. Billy preceded her in death. Katherine lived in Plattsmouth, Nebraska before moving to Anamosa, Iowa where she worked at a nursing home and was a bartender. She moved back to Red Oak in 1981and worked at Good Samaritan Care Center. Katherine moved to Mendon, Missouri in 1986 and was united in marriage to Donald McGuire on October 29, 1988. Katherine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing card games, fishing, and bowling. Preceding her in death were her parents; son: Kenneth Clark; grandson: Aaron Clark; and sister: Nadine Johnson. Survivors include her husband Donald McGuire of Mendon, Missouri; her children: Doug Edwards and wife Susan of Long Grove, IA; Dan Rusk and wife Amanda of Reno, NV; Karen Kranz and husband Rich of Watertown, SD; and Kevin Newlon and wife Angie of Red Oak, IA; daughter-in-law: Jan Clark of Clarinda, IA; grandchildren: Marta Edwards of Long Grove, IA; Stacey Edwards of Florida; Nicole, Brandon, and Jeanette Rusk of Reno, NV; Matthew and Jennifer Kranz of Watertown, SD; Andrea Clark of Clarinda, IA; Christian Jones and husband Matt of Buckeye, AZ; and Desiree Newlon of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Breanna Kinser of Red Oak, IA; Samantha and Madison Newlon of Red Oak, IA; Austin and Collin Jones of Buckeye, AZ; Natasha Edwards of Florida; step son: Billy Newlon, Jr. of Fremont, NE; step-daughter: Lyda Marie Gladbach and husband Ronnie of Mendon, MO; brother: Fred Holm and wife Penny of Shenandoah, IA; sister: Carolyn Blay of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Len Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
