Birthplace: Omaha, Nebraska Resided In: Villisca, Iowa Karen Kolean Bodwell, age 76, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at her home. Karen was born May 25, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Elmer and Anita "Jackie" (Addison) Kadel. She was raised in Henderson, Iowa, and graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1963. Later in her life, she attended Iowa Western Community College and then received her BS Degree in Sociology from Buena Vista University. Karen was united in marriage to Michael Bodwell in 1965 in Henderson, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union: Guy and Jason. Karen was a supervisor at Eveready Battery Company for many years until they closed the plant. She was a Methodist Church member and attended the Henderson Christian Church for many years. Karen loved all animals, especially her horses and was a member of the Tenville Trail Riders. Her love of animals led her to adopt many strays over the years. She was also a member of the Wild Women's Club. Karen also enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids and attended all of their events. Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her sons: Guy Bodwell and wife Caryn of Villisca, IA and Jason Bodwell and wife Tammie of Villisca, IA; grandchildren: Abby Bodwell and fiancé Jason Lichty of W. Des Moines, IA; Austin Bodwell of DeSoto, IA; Mati Bodwell of Cedar Falls, IA; Emma Bodwell of Villisca, IA; Eric Bodwell of Villisca, IA; Stefanie Wilcoxson and husband Quintin of Villisca, IA; and Sawyer Johannes of Villisca, IA; great grandchildren: Elsie Kay Pafford, Sadie Jo Pafford, and Bowen Wilcoxson; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial celebration of life will be held from 4-7 PM Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Villisca Community Building with a time of fellowship to follow at Karen's home. Memorials are suggested to the Animal Alliance of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, or the Friends of Hacklebarney Trails. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
