Birthplace: Brooks, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Julia Brown, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Friday, December 20, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Julia Ann Brown was born July 23, 1907 in Brooks, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Brown) Winstone. She was raised in the Brooks area and was united in marriage to Leslie Brown on November 22, 1926 in Brooks, Iowa. They lived near Nodaway before moving to Villisca where Julia was a homemaker and worked as a cook for several restaurants. Julia and Leslie moved to Red Oak when Acorn Acres housing development opened in May of 1979. Leslie preceded Julia in death on June 20, 1990. Julia has been a resident of Good Samaritan for the past three years and was a member of the First Christian Church. Julia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Leslie Brown; a son: Charles Brown; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 3 sisters: Frieda, Ellen, and Susie; and a brother: Frank. Survivors include her 2 sons: James Brown and his wife Frances of Clarinda, Iowa; and Russell Brown of Corning, Iowa; 5 daughters: Anna Lee and her husband Bob of Red Oak, Iowa; Vera Gunter of American Falls, Idaho; Betty Kirchert of Turlock, California; Bonnie Woodard and her husband John of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Frances Petruccelli and her husband Gabe of Garwood, New Jersey; 21 grandchildren; many great & great great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Lucille and Jessie; brother: Albert; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 27, 2002 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Nodaway, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, December 26, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
