Carlson
February 26, 1927 – November 13, 2022
Joyce Lucille Carlson, age 95, of Glenwood, Iowa, formerly of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the Glen Haven Village Nursing Home in Glenwood, Iowa. Joyce was born February 26, 1927, in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Grace Irene (Kress) LaSeur. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1944. After graduation, she attended the Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha then began employment at Mutual of Omaha / United Benefit. She was united in marriage to Gilbert "Copie" Carlson on May 10, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska. Joyce lived most of her life in Emerson, Iowa. She lived for a short time in Council Bluffs and many years in Glenwood. While in Emerson, Joyce worked for Emerson State Bank, the Thos. D. Murphy Co. in Red Oak, and retired in 1994. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Emerson and later the Christian Church and the Women's Circle group in Glenwood. Joyce enjoyed attending Bible study and was very involved in her community no matter where she lived. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America in Moorhead, Iowa, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Baptist M & A, and Senior Citizens in Emerson, Iowa. Joyce served as treasurer for many organizations including the City of Emerson, Emerson Cemetery Association, Emerson Baptist Church, and Nishna Valley School for 15 years.
Joyce and Copie enjoyed many dances at Peony Park especially to the Glenn Miller Band and still loved to sing and listen to any "Big Band" tunes. Joyce spent a lot of late nights sewing all of her daughters' clothes as they were growing up and then would be up bright and early to head off to work. She sold her Emerson home in 2002, moved to Glenwood and in 2008, she moved into Linnwood Estates Assisted Living and remained in assisted living facilities for 12 ½ years. Her last 1 ½ years were spent at the Glen Haven Village nursing home. She enjoyed faithfully reading her Bible and spiritual books, word puzzles, playing cards, reading, and television game shows. Everyone around her enjoyed her jokes, laughter and interesting stories and trivia and once awhile she would even yodel for you. She always made sure she sent cards to her family and friends for every occasion. If you were really lucky, you might have received a fresh dollar bill in your card. Joyce always loved cards, visits and hugs from her family!
