Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Joy A. Carlson, age 69, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Joy Ann Carlson was born September 13, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Blanche (Jackson) Burnison. She attended school in Coburg graduating in 1955. That same year she was united in marriage to Richard Carlson on September 4. They lived in Alabama while Richard was in the military then moved to Creston, Iowa and later Red Oak where they have lived most of their lives. Joy worked at Vista Gardens Care Center and Nishna Productions as well as working in the home health field. She was a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman. Joy's greatest accomplishment and enjoyment was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Gary Carlson in 1982; sister: Lois Garwood; and sister-in-law: Beverly Westenburg. Survivors include her husband Richard Carlson of Reed Oak, Iowa; children: Richard D. Carlson, Jr. and wife Mi Chong of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Cynthia Tucker and husband Richard of Winterset, Iowa; Stephen Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; Susan Geer and husband Scott of Stanton, Iowa; and Carrie Rinehart and husband Brian of Anamosa, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and was expecting a great grandchild; 5 sisters: Karen Pridemore and husband Harold of Florrisant, Missouri; Phyllis Roseland and husband David of Springfield, Nebraska; Sandra Currie and husband George of Essex, Iowa; Linda Malerbi and husband Larry of Omaha, Nebraska; and Janet Vallone of Clearwater, Florida; 3 brothers: Richard Burnison and wife Leta of Stanton, Nebraska; Lowell Burnison and wife Jan of Red Oak, Iowa; and Larry Burnison and wife Cheryl of Lawton, Oklahoma; brothers and sisters-in-law: John Garwood of Jefferson City, Missouri; LaDonna Raney and husband James of Villisca, Iowa; Marcia Sierp and husband Bob of Onalaska, Wisconsin; Darrell Carlson and wife Mary of Red Oak, Iowa; William Carlson and wife Carol Ann of Clarinda, Iowa; Roger Carlson and wife Mary Jo of Marion, Iowa; Daniel Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; and Barbara Carlson of McCallsburg, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice or the Fremont Lutheran Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
