Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Josephine McCabe, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center after an extended illness. Josephine "Josie" McCabe was born January 16, 1916 on a farm 6 miles north of Stanton, Iowa the daughter of Franklin and Matilda (Munson) Snygg. Josie was united in marriage to John McCabe in 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa. John and Josie owned and operated the Johnny's Café, the Chances R, and the Hilltop Motel before retirement. Josie loved to play the organ and the piano. She often played at the Gold Crown Inn. Josie was preceded in death by her husband: John McCabe on April 29, 2000; and a great granddaughter: Heather. Survivors include her son: James L. McCabe and his wife Dianne L. (Kuester) McCabe of West Des Moines, Iowa; 3 grandchildren: John L. McCabe and his wife Kaydee of Des Moines, Iowa; Jeffrey A. McCabe and his wife Diane of Long Grove, Iowa; and Denise L. McCabe of Davenport, Iowa; great grandchildren including: Michelle, Steven, David, Ryan, Cierra, Michaela, James, Kelly, Christopher, and Kimberly; great grandchild: Kenzie; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, November 13, 2003 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Derek Watt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 AM at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel to go to the cemetery in procession. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-8 PM Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Rescue Unit. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
