Joseph Duane Ross, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society. Duane was born October 7, 1938, in Adams County, Iowa, the son of William Estel and Helen Lucille (Kuhn) Ross. He was raised near Nodaway, Iowa, until moving to Red Oak for his senior year of high school and graduation. He lived in Des Moines for awhile doing construction work before being drafted into the United States Army. Upon his return to Red Oak, Iowa, Duane was united in marriage to Shirley Davis on March 3, 1963, at the First Baptist Church. They lived all their married lives in Red Oak, Iowa. Over the years, Duane worked for Red Oak Express for thirteen years, Eveready until it closed, and ROMECH until it closed, then Red Oak Rehab and Care Center where he retired. Duane’s hobbies included fishing, spending time with his grandkids, and music. He was a guitarist and lead singer for several bands throughout the years. Duane also enjoyed shooting guns, archery, and photography.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister: Betty Wright; brother: Bill Ross; niece: Deanna Ross; and nephew: Billy Joe Ross. Survivors include his wife: Shirley Ross of Red Oak, IA; daughter: Teresa Seering and husband JR of Red Oak, IA; son: Jeff Ross and wife Tanya of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Craig Gates and wife Alisha of Lovilia, IA; Brooke Seering of Grimes, IA; Luke Ross and wife Larynn of Red Oak, IA; Jasmine Seering of Clarinda, IA; and Melanie Schraft and husband Jeff of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Isaiah, Jackson, Gwenivere, Ryder, Jace, Kade, Opie, Silas, Ava, and Colt; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, May 1, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
