Obituary

Birthplace: Emerson, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Joseph Quimby Larson, the eldest son of Nels Frederick (Fritz) and Mary Margaret (Quimby) Larson, was born on January 20, 1944. He passed away unexpectedly of natural causes and entered into eternal rest with his Savior on Monday, March 12, 2012. Joe grew up on a farm south of Emerson, IA, where his family lived for forty-one years. He farmed with his parents until 1976 when they retired from farming and moved into Emerson. He then helped his dad build their present home in Emerson and learned much about carpentry during that time and in the years following when he and Fritz did remodeling and carpentry work in the area. He also did a lot of roofing for Emerson and area residents as well a snow removal for several years. He helped many elderly neighbors with odd jobs and was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or someone in need. Joe attended elementary school at the Keystone one-room school south of Emerson until the 4th grade. In fifth grade, he began attending Emerson Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1962. After high school, he took a farm operations course at Iowa State University. Joe was an avid outdoorsman all of his life. He enjoyed just being out in nature and cultivated his hobbies of fishing, hunting, and trapping. He planted his own garden and shared its harvest with others. Joe loved to read all types of books especially the Old Testament and historical books. He was interested in and knowledgeable in many things. His family's history particularly intrigued him. Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Jon Larson and wife Sharon of Columbia, MO; nephews: Chris Larson and wife Kelly and children Max and Lily of Leawood, KS, and Ben Larson of Denver, CO. He will also be remembered fondly by several cousins and many friends and neighbors. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Indian Creek Historical Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
