John "Steve" Lewis Stevens, age 73, of rural Villisca Iowa, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born on March 19, 1951, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Joyce (Davis) Stevens. He attended school until the 8th grade where he enlisted into the United States Army. Steve served in the Army from 1968 until 1971. His service sent him to Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After returning from service, he lived in many places over the years in Iowa and Missouri. Steve was married to Michele "Shelly" Weston in Garden City Kansas, on December 27, 1996. When the two met, he knew he had a fishing partner for life. There were many times when they would go for a weekend away to fish and camp, notably spending a weekend in the heat of summer fishing, sleeping and eating all from the boat. Steve is known as a "Jack of all trades". He is a former member of the American Legion, of Craig Missouri.
Preceding him in death is his parents; grandparents: John and Fanny Burnett; brother: Roger Olson. Survivors include his wife: Michele "Shelly" Stevens of Villisca, IA; daughter: Emily Stevens and significant other Michael Griffin of Red Oak, IA; sons: John Daniel Stevens and wife Jennifer, of Nebraska; Stevie Joe Stevens and wife Joey, of Fairfax, MO; Levi Dillon Stevens and wife Trisha of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Cory Michael Stevens, of Tarkio, MO; Zachary Daniel Stevens of Fairfax, MO; Hunter Cole Stevens and wife Faith, of Butler, MO; Thayne Daniel Stevens, of Council Bluffs, IA; Merida Lynn Stevens, of Council Bluffs, IA; and the soon to arrive great-granddaughter Amelia Rose Stevens. Siblings. Siblings include his brother: Carroll Olson and wife Shaun, of Baxter, IA; sister: Brenda Hall, of Elmwood KS; brother: Larry Olson, of Great Bend, KS; sister: Kathy Johnson and husband Chopper, of Great Bend, KS; sister: Sandi Burr, of Farragut, IA; brother: Eddie Burr of Florence, Arizona; brother: Rodney Noah and wife Renee, of Great Bend, KS; as well as many other family and friends.
Celebration of life service to be held 1 PM Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Fairfax Community Room in Fairfax, Missouri.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
