John Delaine Maxell, age 86, of Houston, Texas passed away Monday, March 7th at the West Houston Medical Center. Delaine was born December 10, 1935, in Red Oak, Iowa. He was the son of John Roger Maxell and Mary Lucille Maxell.
After graduating from Red Oak High School, he attended college in Missouri and then entered the Air Force where he was a Weather Observer. While in the Air Force he received a Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Air Force he finished his college education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He moved to Houston in the late seventies and was employed with the State of Texas as an Auditor until his retirement. He enjoyed collecting scale model John Deere Tractors and other farm implements. He also enjoyed watching the stock market.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include his son, John Trent Maxell and wife Deb of Omaha, Nebraska, and their son: grandson, Jason Graham and his wife Meagan of Omaha, Nebraska and their (6) children: Sutton, Sullivan, Gracyn, Aidyn, Loryn and Nolyn; daughter, Teri Lighthart and her husband Patrick; and their children: granddaughter, Nicole Kuper and husband John and their daughter Delaney of Council Bluffs, Iowa; granddaughter, Amanda Lighthart and granddaughter, Molly Lighthart of Omaha, Nebraska; and many friends and co-workers.
A graveside service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 12th at the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Red Oak Public Library at 400 North 2nd Street Red Oak, Iowa 51566.
