Birthplace: Winterset, Iowa Resided In: Ralston, Nebraska John Lewellen, age 75, of Ralston, Nebraska passed away July 5, 2013 at his residence. John Edward Lewellen was born September 29, 1937 in Winterset, Iowa the son of Virgil and Grace (VanEpps) Lewellen. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Grace Hascall on June 8, 1957 in Emerson, Iowa. They lived in Red Oak where John worked for Super Value Grocery Store. Over the years he lived in Greenfield, Ames, and Avoca while working for Super Value. He eventually moved to Ralston, Nebraska where he worked for Baker's supermarket as a meat cutter retiring after 31 years. John's hobbies included fishing, golfing, and at one time enjoyed umpiring ball games. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Jim Lewellen; and an infant son, Nick. Survivors include his wife: Grace of Ralston; sons: Kent Lewellen of Des Moines, IA and Jay Lewellen and wife Adriana of Horsham, PA; 4 grandchildren: Bailey, Kyle, and Breann Lewellen of Des Moines, IA, and Juliana Lewellen of Horsham, PA; great grandson: Kayden; sisters: Mary Ann Carlson and husband Darrell of Red Oak, IA and Myra McMullen of Shenandoah, IA; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the memorial service. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. A memorial marker will be placed on the Lewellen family plot in Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
