Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa John Eugene Herren, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. John was born June 26, 1941 in rural Red Oak, Iowa, near Hawthorne, the son of John O. and Florence (Glassinger) Herren. He has lived all of his life in Red Oak, Iowa. He graduated from Red Oak Community High School and served in the 1168th Transportation Company of the Iowa Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Coleen Lewis on June 8, 1968 in Villisca, Iowa. John worked for many years as a mechanic for the Chevrolet dealership, McAlpin Motors, Belt GM Center, and the Standard gas station that used to be on Broadway. He loved working on cars, going to car shows, and spending time with family and his animals. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife: Coleen Herren of Red Oak; son: John J. Herren of Red Oak; daughter: Cynthia Herren of Red Oak; sister: Dorothy Herren of West Virginia; brother: Floyd Herren of Stanton, IA; brother-in-law: Duane Lewis of Colorado Springs, CO; and other relatives and many friends. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
