Birthplace: Rogers, Arkansas Resided In: Rural Emerson, Iowa John T. Gage, Jr., age 74, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Friday, December 13, 2002 at the Loess Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa after an extended illness. John Thomas Gage, Jr. was born November 26, 1928 in Rogers, Arkansas the son of John Thomas Gage, Sr. and Ola Bowman Gage. The family moved to the Henderson area when John was 2 years old. John was united in marriage to Opal Kadel on December 24, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska. They have lived in Emerson for the past 45 years. John drove a truck for Viner's for many years and worked for the Department of Transportation retiring after 16 years. He was a member of the Emerson United Methodist Church. John was preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Monty Evans; 3 sisters: Elsie Prine; Lucile Laverty; and Irene Mabbitt; and an infant brother: Earl. Survivors include his wife: Opal Gage of Emerson, Iowa; children: Jerry Gage and his wife Eleanor of Osceola, Iowa; Alan Gage of Emerson, Iowa; Dixie Strange and her husband Doug of Des Moines, Iowa; Dale Gage and his wife Bonnie of Emerson, Iowa; Ron Evans and his wife Bev of Orem, Utah; Joy Evans of Bellevue, Nebraska; Denzil Gage and his wife Debbie of Glenwood, Iowa; Marlin Gage and his wife Peggy of Emerson, Iowa; and Mitch Gage and his wife Karen of Emerson, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister: Pearl McVay of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Curtis Gage and his wife Ellen of New Market, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Emerson United Methodist Church with Pastor Clifford Speck officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, December 16, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson United Methodist Church or the Emerson Fire Department.
