Birthplace: Omaha, Nebraska Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa John A. Carmichael, age 63, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Viking Lake State Park near Stanton, Iowa. John Albert Carmichael was born July 28, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska the son of John Albert and Evelyn (Pitt) Carmichael. He was raised near Tenville, Iowa and graduated from Villisca, Iowa High School in 1966. John served in the Military during Vietnam and returned home and started work for Leonard Nelson Construction. He also worked for Oakland Beef until going to work at the Union Carbide Battery Company. He worked there when Eveready closed the plant in 1996. He then worked for Henry Weld and Minsa before his most recent employment with Montgomery County Roads Department. John was a longtime member of the Villisca VFW. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, bicycling, cooking, taking pictures, and tinkering with new technology. Preceding John in death were his parents and brother: Fred Carmichael. Survivors include his wife: Peggy Carmichael of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Jenny Clayton and husband Matt of Huachuca City, Arizona and Julie Carmichael of China; step-son: Dino Hayz and wife Tina of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren: Kaitlynn Clayton, Eli Hayz, and Atticus Garrison; sister-in-law: Sandra Guinn of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Len Taylor officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 9 AM until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
