Joel Douglas Herzberg, age 33, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joel was born December 11, 1990, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of James and Janice (Sturm) Herzberg. He was raised on the family farm that he loved so much where he enjoyed putting up hay, loved the harvest, and the pigs and cows. He graduated with the class of 2009 from Villisca High School. Joel was involved in most sporting activities throughout high school including football, baseball, golf and basketball. His basketball team was a 2009 State Qualifier. He was involved in FFA, 4-H, National Honor Society, and Student Council. Joel had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed telling jokes and never met a stranger. Joel was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents: Victor and Jean Herzberg and Norbert and Marjorie Sturm. Survivors include his parents: James and Janice Herzberg of Villisca, IA; brothers: Andrew Herzberg and wife Abby of Villisca, IA; Gregg Herzberg and wife Emily of Stanton, IA; and Travis Herzberg and wife Carmen of Wellington, MO; nieces and nephews: Reese, Avery, Leighton, Emmett, Addison, Josie, and Isaiah; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa. The family requests that everyone wear their favorite sportswear that reflects their team. Joel would love that! Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Villisca Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, On With Life, or the Montgomery County Ag Society.
