Joann Marie Rickels, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. Joann was born January 10, 1949, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Heitman) Rickels. She lived many years in Stanton, Iowa, and graduated from Stanton High School in 1967. Joann moved to Red Oak in 1973, where over the years, she worked at Thos. D. Murphy Co., mowed yards, JD Café, Red Oak Express, and carried papers for the Weekly Times. Joann was a hardworking very kind person. Her hobbies included bicycling and collecting stamps.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two infant siblings. Survivors include many cousins and friends.

A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 10 AM Monday, September 28, 2026, at Arlington Cemetery in rural Stanton, Iowa.
