Birthplace: Henderson, Iowa Resided In: Rural Red Oak, Iowa JoAnn Houser, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. JoAnn Houser was born August 15, 1934 in Henderson, Iowa the daughter of Sam and Toby (Knight) Taylor. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1952 and attended Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked for Mutual of Omaha and was united in marriage to Gerald "Scoop" Houser on October 17, 1953 in Glenwood, Iowa. They lived in Henderson, Iowa until Scoop served in the military. They moved back to the southwest Iowa area in 1960 and have lived in their current home for 45 years. JoAnn had been a resident of the Stanton Care Center since May of 2012. Over the years, JoAnn worked at the bank in Henderson and also the Don Smith Insurance Agency. She and Scoop managed their family farm their entire married life. JoAnn was very active in the Henderson Christian Church where she served in many capacities including teacher, board member, and secretary/ treasurer for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Robert Taylor and his wife Donna; and sister-in-law: Janet Peterson and her husband Bud. Survivors include her husband: Gerald "Scoop" Houser of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Julie Barclay and husband Curt of Shenandoah, IA; son: Kenneth Houser of Red Oak, IA; granddaughter: Kira Sisson and husband Ryan of Bettendorf, IA; great grandchildren: Caroline and Miles Sisson of Bettendorf, IA; sister-in-law: Kathy Lunn and husband Rick of Emerson, IA; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Henderson Christian Church with Pastor Carl Brandt officiating. A private family interment service was held prior to the memorial service at Farm Creek Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established in JoAnn's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
