Birthplace: Platte, South Dakota Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Jessie Johnson, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Jessie D. Johnson was born October 26, 1911 in Platte, South Dakota the daughter of John and Mae (Gooder) Roethler. She graduated from Platte High School and received her Normal Training from the Platte College. Her first teaching job was at the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Jessie was united in marriage to Howard Johnson in June of 1929. Jessie taught school for 5 years. During WWII Howard and Jessie moved to California and returned after the war to South Dakota where they farmed. Later they moved to Madison South Dakota where they operated a bulk gas station and a laundromat. After their retirement they moved back to California, but they weren't retired for long. They operated several laundromats in California. Howard passed away in 1969 and Jessie moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1971. Jessie spent her whole life raising her children and grandchildren all of whom she loved dearly. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Howard Johnson in 1969; daughter: Connie Rose in 1971; sisters: Isea, Essie, and Ole; and a brother: Babe. Survivors include her 2 sons: Dallas Johnson and wife Kay of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Russell Johnson and wife Susan of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Maxine Woods and husband Marty of Red Oak, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Shawn Peters and husband Shawn of Council Bluffs; Todd Johnson of Council Bluffs; Shannon Willadsen and husband Dr. Kent of Council Bluffs; Bryce Johnson and wife Jenny of Red Oak; Mark Johnson and wife Leanne of Kansas City; Jordan Johnson of Red Oak; Justin Woods of Ames; Nicolas Woods of Minneapolis; Andrew Woods of Red Oak; Leslie Podliska and husband Mike of Ottumwa; Jessica Moya and husband Jose of Red Oak; and Myshell Stephens of Red Oak; great grandchildren: Travis, Emilee, Lindsay, Derrick, Dallas, Megan, Blake, Kaylee, Reed, Kaden, Wenk, Abbey, Tiegan, Tyne, Cg, Caleb, Gabrielle, Chelsea, Devon, and Cameo; many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Ken Gross, celebrant.
