Birthplace: Liberal, Kansas Resided In: Rural Essex, Iowa Jerry Lee Potter, age 67, of Essex, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Jerry was born September 22, 1946 in Liberal, Kansas the son of Cecil M. and Lucille S. (Briles) Potter. He lived most of his younger life in the Turpin area of the panhandle of Oklahoma. He graduated from Baker High School in Turpin, OK in 1965. Jerry served in the 3rd Administration Company Infantry Division of the United States Army. He met and married his wife, Marian B. Heffner in June of 1968 in La Junta, Colorado. They returned to Oklahoma in 1969 where they lived until 1981 when they moved to Red Oak, Iowa. Jerry worked with his sister and brother-in-law in the Bargain Barn in Red Oak and moved to rural Essex, Iowa in 1986 to farm. He also worked for Nachurs in Red Oak for 17 years retiring in 2009 due to illness. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting and fishing and was an avid University of Oklahoma fan. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marian of the home in Essex, IA; daughters: Lorrie Housh and husband Tim of Red Oak, IA and Candi Woods of Essex, IA; grandchildren: Ashley Housh of Omaha, NE; Justin Housh of Red Oak; Marcus Birt and wife Rachel of Boone, IA; and Austin Woods of Essex; two great grandsons: Jayden Ludwig and Easton Lee Birt; sister: Marlena Morse and husband Lincoln of Red Oak; niece: Sherry Bourlon and husband Bill of Corning, IA; nephew: Shawn Morse of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Len Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7 PM Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Essex Athletics and Booster Club or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
