Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Rural Red Oak, Iowa Jeanette Mirts, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after a brief illness. Jeanette Mirts was born October 25, 1929 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Merle Raymond and Kathryn (Ross) Winn. She graduated from Red Oak High School and later was united in marriage to Gordon Mirts on March 24, 1948 in Sidney, Iowa. They lived and farmed all of their married life in West Township of Montgomery County. Jeanette remained on the farm after Gordon passed away on February 25, 1991. Over the years Jeanette worked for Thomas D. Murphy Company, Montgomery County Public Health, REC as a meter reader, and cleaned houses for many families. She was a longtime member of the Climax United Methodist Church and when it closed became a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and was very involved with 4 H being a leader for many years. Jeanette enjoyed reading, bowling, gardening, quilting, crocheting, and spending time with her dogs. She also spent many hours volunteering in the office during the Montgomery County Fair every year. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers: Ross and James; and sister: Muriel. Survivors include her brother-in-law: Gene Mirts and wife Beverly of Red Oak, Iowa; sister-in-law: Mary Lou Holmes and husband Wayne of Shenandoah, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Salem Cemetery in rural Montgomery County, Iowa. Family and friends will gather at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel by 9:30 AM on Tuesday to go to the cemetery in procession. There will be open visitation at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Cemetery or the Montgomery County Animal Rescue. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
