Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Walnut, IA formerly Corning Jeanette M. Dodson Herbert, age 90, of Walnut, Iowa formerly of Corning, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic after a brief illness. Jeanette Marie Dodson Herbert was born January 23, 1918 in Montgomery County, Iowa near Emerson the daughter of John and Emma (Whitt) Dodson. She graduated from the Wales Lincoln Consolidated Schools. Jeanette was united in marriage to Earl Herbert on December 21, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa. They farmed near Macedonia and later in Red Oak until 1949 when they moved back to Macedonia. In 1958 they moved to Corning, Iowa where Jeanette lived until July of this year when she moved to the Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut, Iowa. Jeanette was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion, several card clubs, the Over 60 Club, and the Rainbow Garden Club. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Earl on June 25, 1972; sisters and brothers: Gladys Stuvick, Harold Dodson, Helen Martin, Mildred Braden, Herbert Dodson, Howard Dodson, Harry Dodson, and Thomas Dodson. Survivors include her children: Leona Farris and husband Bill of W. Des Moines, IA; James "Buzz" Herbert and wife Gwen of Corning, IA; Patricia Nagel and husband Gary of Flower Mound, TX; and Fran Branan and husband Tim of Walnut, Iowa; grandchildren: Toni Farris of W. Des Moines, IA; Susan Bachman and husband Dan of New York City, NY; Michael Shaw and wife Monique of Des Moines, IA; Timothy Shaw and wife Sandy of Pleasant Hill, IA; Lauri Grossman and husband David of Redmond, WA; Matthew Herbert and wife Tracy of Shepherd, MI; Joshua Branan and wife Wendy of Avoca, IA; Jacob Branan and wife Rebecca of Macedonia, IA; and Jenifer Nelson of Omaha, NE; 16 great grandchildren; sister: Marguerite Miller of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 4 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, Iowa with the Rev. Aaron Hand officiating. There will be a private burial ceremony at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-8 PM Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Corning, Iowa Community Center. Memorials are suggested to the Corning Public Library, American Legion Auxiliary or the Cass County Hospital Hospice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
