Jean Marie Thrapp, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Jean was born May 23, 1932, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Amy (Levine) Weilman. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1949. In her younger years, she worked for Bon Ton Cleaners until starting her career with Thos. D. Murphy Co. Jean retired after 46 years in 1997. That same year, Jean was united in marriage to her longtime companion, LaVerne Thrapp. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing, knitting, tending her flowers, and spending time with her cats.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, LaVerne Thrapp on June 30, 1997. Jean is survived by her cousins including Keith Magneson of Prairie Village, Kansas and Shirley Billings of Red Oak, Iowa by marriage. Shirley's husband, LaVon was Jean's cousin. Jean was also very close with Shirley's son and his family: Scott and Molly Billings and their children: Nicholas, Elizabeth, and William.
Graveside funeral services will be held 3 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel by 2:30 PM to go to the cemetery in procession. Memorials are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
