Birthplace: Imogene, Iowa Resided In: Clarinda, IA formerly Red Oak Jean Ediline Eitzen, age 87, of Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Clarinda Regional Medical Center in Clarinda, Iowa. Jean was born July 15, 1927 in Imogene, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard James and Irene Ellen (Gutschenritter) Laughlin. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and later graduated from the Shenandoah, Iowa High School. She worked at Shenandoah Hospital for Dr. Gee before moving to Red Oak. She had a long career with Glenwood State School in Glenwood, Iowa. After retirement, Jean moved to Bellevue, Nebraska for a short time before moving to Atlantic, Iowa. Clarinda has been her home for the past 8 years. She was a long time member of St. Mary's Church in Red Oak and recently a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Clarinda. Jean enjoyed painting, sewing, singing, reading, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Jerome Laughlin; sister: Rose Korshoj; sisters-in-law: Joyce Laughlin; Margaret Laughlin; and Helen Reed; brothers-in-law: Speed Robinson; Kenny Christensen; Howard Reed; and Ivan Eitzen; and grandson: Christopher Laire. Survivors include her children: Jim Eitzen and wife Avis of Red Oak; Teri Eitzen-Graves and husband Wayne of Cape Coral, FL; and Susan Smith and husband Mark of Clarinda, IA; grandchildren: Khela McDonald (Chris)-Willis, TX; Joel Eitzen (Kristy Plumlee)-Red Oak; Kristin Eitzen (Anthony)-Tomball, TX; Brandon Eitzen (Angela)-Austin, TX; Corey Laire (Heather)-Red Oak; Caleb Schantz (Jen)-Omaha, NE; Rachel Schantz-Des Moines, IA; Kimberly Driver (David)-Bellevue, MD; Todd Graves (Maggie)-N. Ft. Myers, FL; Patrick Smith (Lisa)-Red Oak; and Dana Carriveau (Justin)-Las Vegas, NV; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brothers and sisters: Lois Ludington, Bud Laughlin, Gerald Laughlin; Helen Robinson; Robert Laughlin; Pat Laughlin; John Laughlin; and Teresa Christensen; sisters-in-law: Jean Laughlin; Kathryn Nelson; and Helen Eitzen; brother-in-law: Hogart Korshoj; and many other relatives and friends. A private memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak with burial of the cremated remains to be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
