Obituary

Birthplace: Page County, Iowa Resided In: Council Bluffs, Iowa Janice Kay McCunn, age 71, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Woodlands Nursing and Rehab Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa after an extended illness. Janice Kay McCunn was born January 14, 1938 in Page County, Iowa the daughter of John Herschel and Greta Mae (Abbott) McCunn. She grew up on a farm Northeast of Red Oak and moved to Omaha at the age of 17. She attended Commercial Extension and started working with State Farm Insurance and later Mutual of Omaha Insurance retiring in the late 1980's after 24 years of service. Janice loved sports and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, the Softball Hall of Fame, and the Bowling Hall of Fame in Omaha. She was also an avid golfer. Janice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Merle, Deane, Lyle, Lowell, and Ellis; and sisters: Patricia Larson and Norma Peterson. Survivors include her brothers: Myron McCunn and wife Diane of Orion, Illinois; Don McCunn and wife Ardel of Massena, Iowa; and Carroll "Newt" McCunn and wife Carolyn of Onawa, Iowa; sisters: Marilyn Drennen and husband Sam of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Rebecca "Becky" Taylor of Rockford, Illinois; special friend: Ginnie Engle of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
