Janice Kay Bruce, age 65, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at her home after a brief illness. Janice was born May 10, 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Jay and Bonnie (Abramson) Tye. She graduated from high school and was united in marriage to Randy Bruce on June 1, 1974 while he was serving in the military in San Diego, California. They lived for a short time in Washington before moving to Elliott, Iowa. In 1977, they moved to Red Oak and started their family. Over the years, Janice worked for Red Lion, Medicap Pharmacy, Red Oak Community High School and started working for Fareway when the store opened in Red Oak. Janice was quite creative and enjoyed refinishing woodworking projects, decorating her home, art, sewing, baking, and canning. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and siblings: Patrick Tye, Teresa Daniels, and James Tye. Survivors include her husband Randy Bruce of Red Oak, IA; sons: Lewis Bruce and wife Keesha of Atlantic, IA and Dana Bruce and wife Vanessa Griffin of Littleton, CO; grandchildren: Melissa Budinger of Billings, MT; Mikayla Bruce of Littleton, CO; Cohen Bruce of Atlantic, IA; and Adler Bruce of Atlantic, IA; sister: Linda Tye of Denver, CO; sister-in-law: Cathy Barnes and husband Bill of Englewood, CO; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Estabrook Cancer Center at Nebraska Methodist Hospital. A private family burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery prior to the celebration of life.
