Obituary

James “Jim” Charles Thuman passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Jim was born on May 8, 1944, in Villisca, Iowa, the son of Leo and Doris (Goodwin) Thuman. Jim grew up in the Villisca area where he went to school and helped his parents on their farm. He moved to Kansas City where he graduated from college and then settled in Clarinda, Iowa, where he raised his two daughters, Angela and Ashley. Jim was a pressman, working for the local newspaper and later Clarinda Printing and Graphics. He belonged to the Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the Clarinda A’s board. He later met Kathleen Headlee and the two had been married for nearly 15 years. Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. He spent many winters in Arizona and made many friends over the years. His favorite thing was spending time with his five grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother: Carroll Thuman.

Jim is survived by his daughters: Angela Thuman of Clarinda and Ashley Mikkelsen of Maryville, Missouri; grandchildren: Ariel Peterson, Olivia Mikkelsen, Genevieve, Carter Mikkelsen and Cameron Mikkelsen; his wife: Kathleen Headlee of Coon Rapids, Iowa; sister: Mary Jones of Red Oak, Iowa; nieces: Tammy (Scott) Jones and Sandy Vrbsky; cousins: Karen Mandina; Janet “Sue” Courtier and Laura Strehle; Kathleen’s children: Brian (Mary) Headlee and Annette Dingman; and many other family members and friends.
