Birthplace: Miami, Florida Resided In: Hastings, Iowa James A. "Jim" Skidmore, age 56, of Hastings, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 29, 2003 in Mills County, Iowa from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. James Aaron "Jim" Skidmore, Jr. was born August 31, 1947 in Miami, Florida the son of James Aaron and Ardith (Allensworth) Skidmore. He was raised in Florida and attended school there until serving in the United States Army as a Sky Soldier in the 173rd Airborne Division. Jim served during Vietnam and was awarded a purple heart as well as other honors. Upon returning from the war Jim lived in Jacksonville, Florida until moving to Iowa where he has lived in Henderson, Stanton, and most recently Hastings. When he lived in Florida he raced motorcycles and worked on a line crew for the power company. When he moved to Iowa he worked for the Eveready Battery Company for many years. After Eveready, Jim owned and operated a bar and restaurant in Hastings before going to work for Wheeler Truck Line in Omaha. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cocoa Beach, Florida, the Red Oak Elks Lodge #1304, and the Harley Davidson HOG organization. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his father. Survivors include his step-son: Trevor Scanlan of Stanton, Iowa; his mother: Ardith "Ardi" Winnett of Red Oak, Iowa; sister: Janice McGinn of Chicago, Illinois; brother: Ron Skidmore of Emerson, Iowa; 4 nieces: Erin McGinn of Chicago, Illinois; Bailie Skidmore, Demi Skidmore, and Paige Johnson all of Red Oak, Iowa; uncle and aunt: Richard and Deloma Allensworth of Emerson, Iowa; step-mother: Peg Panter of Winchester, Tennessee; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve McKinney officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Mills County, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
