Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Rural Grant, Iowa James R. "Jim" Parker, age 62, of Grant, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. James Roger "Jim" Parker was born October 17, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Eugene and Anna Marie (Chalmers) Parker. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1967 and attended Iowa Western Community College for two years studying Diesel Mechanics. Jim was united in marriage to Linda Alvis on July 12, 1969 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jim and Linda lived all of their married life in Montgomery County, Iowa and have lived on the Century Family Farm since 1980. Jim was very active in his church, Fellowship of Faith Christian Center, where he volunteered in the Children's Department and the Music Department for many years. Jim was a longtime Fair Board member, President of the Elliott Business and Betterment Association, was a Montgomery County Supervisor, served on the Resource Conservation and Development Board, Griswold School Board, Grant Rural Fire Department, and was a supporter of many other community activities. Jim and Linda spent many hours entertaining groups with their musical talents and Jim was always on stage with his comedic sense of humor. Jim loved carpentry, music, fishing, camping, boating, and most importantly he loved the Lord and his family. He was very faithful to both. Jim's family describes him as loyal, compassionate, kind, dependable, honest, and being a "man of his word". Preceding him in death were his father: Eugene Parker in 2008, brother: Glenn Parker in 1984; brothers-in-law: Floyd Stonehocker and Jim Alvis; and sister-in-law: Evelyn Alvis. Survivors include his wife: Linda Parker of Grant, Iowa; children: Matthew Parker and wife Amber of Hopkins, Missouri and Melody Parker of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Olivia and Angeline Parker of Hopkins, Missouri; mother: Anna Marie Parker of Griswold, Iowa; sister: Patricia Stonehocker of Griswold, Iowa; sister-in-law: Mary Ulmer and husband Charles of Des Moines, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 7 PM Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Fellowship of Faith Christian Center at Oakland, Iowa. A private family interment service will be held at the Grant, Iowa Cemetery prior to the celebration of life service. There will be open visitation and viewing at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 25th & 26th. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Jim's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
