James E. "Butch" Kephart, age 67, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home. Butch was born June 21, 1956, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Lester and Agnes (Maylone) Kephart. He was raised in Muscatine and Davenport where he attended school. Jim was a roofer and worked in home improvement construction. He owned and operated Kephart and Sons Home Improvement for many years. Jim was united in marriage to Lauretta Threlkeld on August 29, 2015, in Iowa City, Iowa. Over the years, Jim lived in many different places throughout the country and moved back to Red Oak, Iowa, in 2015. He truly loved woodworking and tinkering on things. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and doing leather work.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Lauretta Kephart; brothers: Tom Essex and Dennis Kephart; and grandson: Hunter. Survivors include his children: Tracy Huber and husband Cole of Wichita, KS; Tanya Craig and husband Brett of Clinton, IA; Christina Kephart of Davenport, IA; Jamie Jamison of Davenport, IA; Lelsie Landers of Davenport, IA; Christopher Long of Council Bluffs, IA; Katie Pierce of Red Oak, IA; and Keaton Kephart of Emerson, IA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Mike Essex of Wisconsin; Linda Bierman and husband Jack of Muscatine, IA; Steve Kephart and wife Janet of Cedar Rapids, IA; Patty Kephart and husband Bill Dale of Milan, IL; Terri Vaughn of Davenport, IA; Rick Kephart of Davenport, IA; Candy Kephart of Moline, IL; and Larry Kephart and wife Amy of Bettendorf, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
There will be no services held at this time.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
