Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa James Arnold Johnson, age 83, of Red Oak passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa. James was born November 25, 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Basil and Lucille (Arnold) Johnson. James was a lifelong area resident graduating from Red Oak High School with the class of 1951. He met Alice Bosteder at a dance in 1952 and the couple were united in marriage on July 19, 1952 in Clarinda, Iowa. To this union, two children, Vicki and Kevin were born. Jim answered the call to serve his country with the U. S. Army entering September 20, 1955. After his discharge on June 21, 1957 he continued to serve in the National Guard until August 18, 1959. He managed Sieg Auto Supply for several years before taking a job with B. F. Goodrich as Budget Control Manager. When B. F. Goodrich went out of business, Jim joined Uniroyal as a supervisor and when Uniroyal sold to Parker-Hannifin he continued his employment until retiring in 1996. Upon retirement the couple spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Alamo, Texas. Jim had a passion working on his Jeepsters where he and Alice had been active long time members of the Mid-State Jeepsters and were also members with the Classy Chassis Car Club in Red Oak. He was also a member of the Red Oak Ambassadors serving as president and long time member of the Eagles. Jim was an excellent singer and dancer, and he and Alice danced together for over 65 years. He was very patriotic and extremely proud of his time in the service. He enjoyed being around people, and was the mayor of Red Oak retiring after 16 years of community service. . Preceding him in death were his parents, Basil and Lucille (Arnold) Johnson, a sister Shirley Doil and a great grandson Connor Smith. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Alice, a daughter Vicki Pratt and husband Dan, a son Kevin Johnson and wife Sandy all of Red Oak. Five granddaughters and nine great grandchildren A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak with Pastor Caryn Pederson officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Nelson Boylan LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to Muscular Dystrophy or Wounded Warriors. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
