Birthplace: Rural Grant, Iowa Resided In: Grant, Iowa Jack M. Taylor, age 86, of Grant, Iowa passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa after an extended illness. Jack Melvin Taylor was born October 26, 1922 on a farm near Grant, Iowa the son of Seymour and Lenora (Towne) Taylor. He graduated from Grant High School in 1940 and lived all of his life near Grant except during WWII when he served in the Army Air Corp as a tail gunner on a B17. Jack was united in marriage to Helen Sandquist on June 30, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Red Oak. To this union three children were born: Linda, Bill, and Roy. Jack was a farmer and truck driver until retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of the Grant United Methodist Church where he served as trustee. Jack was a 60 plus year member of the Grant American Legion Post and was commander for many years. He was also a member of the Villisca VFW, Montgomery County Veterans Committee, and served on the Grant town council. After retiring, Jack was always busy doing volunteer work for the church, the town, or anyone else that needed help. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother: Loren F. Taylor. Survivors include his wife: Helen Taylor of Grant, Iowa; children: Linda Staiert and husband Robert of Topeka, Kansas; Bill Taylor and wife Nancy and Roy Taylor and wife Karen all of the Grant, Iowa area; grandchildren: Angie Perrier and husband Glen of Alma, Kansas; John Staiert and wife Julie of Topeka, Kansas; Loren Taylor of Elliott, Iowa; Bob Taylor and wife Genie, Chris Taylor, and Kari Taylor all of the Grant, Iowa area; great grandchildren: Adam and Noah Perrier; Shane and Colten Taylor; Jaylin Moore; Jozzy Thach; and the soon due baby Staiert; brother: Vernon Taylor and wife Phyllis of Atlantic, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Doris Sandquist of Shenandoah, Iowa and Evelyn Sandquist of Creston, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held from 2 PM - 5PM Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Elliott Community Building in Elliott, Iowa. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Jack's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
