Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Jack Confer, age 68, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after a 2 month illness. Jack Edmund Confer was born September 8, 1935 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Glen LeRoy and Marcel Lucille (Ballain) Confer. He was raised on the family farm between Red Oak and Emerson and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1953. Jack was stationed in Alaska while serving his country in the Military during the Korean War. Jack lived in Texas for a short time before moving back to Iowa. He was united in marriage to Betty Andersen. They lived on the family farm all of their married life. The farm will be a Century Farm this next year. Jack was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church where he was a trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Red Oak Elks Lodge. Jack's favorite pastimes were spending time with his family, deer hunting, and trucking. Survivors include his wife: Betty Confer of Emerson, Iowa; children: Kerry Confer and wife Amy of Red Oak, Iowa; Keith Confer and wife Colleen of Glenwood; Ken Confer and wife Wendy of Stanton, Iowa; and Kelli Confer of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Matt, Mark, and Liz Confer all of Red Oak, Iowa; Katelyn and Kiersten Confer of Glenwood, Iowa; and Cassie Gilliland, Cade and Marcel Confer, all of Stanton, Iowa; brother: Glen Confer and wife Carolyn of Essex, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob Andersen and wife Rhoda of Kiowa, Colorado; Rose Lewis and husband Keith of Pace, Florida; Gene Andersen and wife Jeannie of Golden, Colorado; Arnold Andersen and wife Lou Ann of Marshalltown, Iowa; Donna Mae Blay and husband Frank of Twin Falls, Idaho; and Don Andersen and wife Linda of Oskaloosa, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak with Pastor Steve McKinney and Pastor Janice Carlton officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8:30 PM Monday, May 10, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church or the Heartland Hospice of Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
