Birthplace: Page County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ellis McCunn, age 71, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 29, 2001 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. John Ellis McCunn was born April 29, 1930 in Nebraska Township of Page County, Iowa the son of John and Greta (Abbott) McCunn. He graduated from the Stennett High School in 1948 and started out farming. Ellis served his country during the Korean Conflict stationed in Germany with the United States Army. On October 11, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou England. They have lived all of their married life in Southwest, Iowa. Ellis worked for the Farmers Mercantile Company where he started and operated the lumberyard. He then went into the construction business opening his own business, McCunn Construction in 1972. He retired in 1995. Ellis was also a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church and took great pride in his family. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Patrick McCunn in 1980; 4 brothers: Lyle, Merle, Deane, and Lowell McCunn; and 2 sisters: Patricia Larson; and Norma Peterson. Survivors include his wife: Mary Lou McCunn of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 daughters: Susan Peters and her husband Craig of Glenwood, Iowa; and Nancy Behrens and her husband Rick of Red Oak, Iowa; 5 grandchildren Seth, Jace and Katie Peters of Glenwood, Iowa; Allison and Sarah Behrens of Red Oak, Iowa; 3 brothers: Myron McCunn and his wife Diane of Orion, Illinois; Donald McCunn and his wife Ardell of Massena, Iowa; and Carroll McCunn and his wife Carolyn of Onawa, Iowa; 3 sisters: Marilyn Drennan and her husband Sam of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Janice McCunn of Omaha, Nebraska; and Rebecca Taylor of Rockford, Illinois; 2 brothers-in-law: Dr. B.J. England of Griswold, Iowa; and Darwin Larson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 5 sisters-in-law: Laura Mae Reimer and her husband Bob of Oakland, Iowa; Coleen, Phyllis, and Carolyn McCunn all of Red Oak, Iowa; and Betty McCunn of Greenfield, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Suzanne Hewett officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, October 1, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
