Birthplace: Shenandoah, IA Resided In: Red Oak, IA J. Gene Geist, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Gene was born August 4, 1927 in Shenandoah, Iowa the son of Lee and Bertha (Fessler) Geist. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1946. He worked for his father at Beatrice Foods and was a life guard at the Red Oak pool. Gene served in the Iowa National Guard from 1948 until 1952. He was united in marriage to Deloris Sederburg on June 2, 1950 in Nyman, Iowa. They owned and operated Geist Furniture and Carpet Store from 1952-1981. Gene was a long time member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge, Past President of Montgomery County Crime Stoppers. and a member of the Nine County Crime Stoppers. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Maury Geist. Survivors include his wife: Deloris Geist of Red Oak; son: Gary Geist of Maryville, MO; daughter: Connie Bishop of Red Oak; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Private family graveside memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
