Birthplace: Oakland, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ivan "Gerald" Owens, age 89, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center. Ivan "Gerald" Owens was born March 15, 1920 in Oakland, Iowa the son of William and Mae (Fehr) Owens. After attending school, Gerald started farming until serving in the Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Lorene Longcor on January 27, 1946 in Oakland, Iowa. Over the years they farmed near Wheeler Grove and Oakland before coming to Red Oak where they farmed for three years. Gerald also worked for Ellis McCunn Construction for 14 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Lorene in 1994; infant brother: James in 1915; brother: Kenneth in 1959; sisters: Phyllis Batten in 1992; Colene DeBolt in 2001; and Ruth Brashier in 2007. Survivors include his children: William "Bill" Owens and wife Ruth of Stanton, Iowa and Sharlee Owens of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Christina Lahr and husband Dennis of Atlantic, Iowa; Stephanie Stillian and husband Charles of Marne, Iowa; Kenneth Owens of Stanton, Iowa; Gene Owens of Platte City, Missouri; and Jeffrey Owens and wife Kari of Burn Harbor, Indiana; one step-grandchild: James Fisher of Red Oak, Iowa; 9 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; expecting a great great grandchild soon; brother: Donald Owens and wife Charlene of Carson, Iowa; sisters: Iola Williamson of Seal Beach, California and Nadine Randall of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jan Phillips officiating. Burial will take place at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland, Iowa on Monday October 26, 2009 at 2 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
