Birthplace: Emerson, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Irene Lucille (Scott) Parker Irene Parker of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Oct 29, 2011 at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 7 days. She was born May 22, 1918 in Emerson, Iowa, one of four children of long-time Mills County residents Alfred Milton and Emma Mae (Edie) Scott. Irene was raised on the Scott homestead, near Hastings, IA. She attended schools at North Grove, Hastings, and graduated from Emerson High School. After graduation, she moved to Colorado to be near her sister, Thelma and husband Art. It was during this time that she married Kenneth C. Williams, a paratrooper in the Army, well known at that time for jumping from airplanes with his parachuting dog for the war bond effort. To this union a daughter, Sharyn was born. In 1946, Irene and Sharyn moved back to her parents' home where they stayed for several years while Irene worked at the Carbon plant in Red Oak, IA. It was here she met Joseph L. Parker, whom she married in 1951. This union was blessed with two sons, Michael and Jimmie Dean. Irene spent most of her life being a wife and loving mother. She also worked in various offices and grocery stores in the neighborhood. She and Joe moved to Malvern in the 1960s from Hastings. In 1986 they retired and moved to Red Oak, IA. Irene was good-natured, witty and well liked. She loved spending time with her family, most notably that of her brothers and sister, with whom she maintained a close, life-long relationship, her children and grandchildren. Surviving is her brother: Kenneth and wife Iva (Jackson) Scott of Malvern, IA; daughter: Sharyn and husband William Student of Red Oak, IA; son: Mike and wife Gillian of Colorado; and son: Jim and wife Joanne of rural Henderson, IA; nieces: Sharlene (Scott) Grindle and husband Rod and Lavonne (Scott) Duran and husband Dave; nephew: Roger Scott and wife Iris; grandchildren: Scott Rosas, Hilary (Parker) Hummel, Jay Parker, and Adam Parker; step-grandchildren: Freadom, Dilen and Breyanna; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; husbands: Kenneth and Joe; sister: Thelma and husband Art; brother: Carl and wife Ruth; granddaughter: Michelle Rosas; and grandson: Brian Rosas. Graveside services will be at the North Grove Cemetery, rural Hastings, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2011. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Cards may be sent to the funeral home or to Sharyn at 502 N. 8th St., Red Oak, IA 51566. A memorial fund has been established for a living memorial to be located at the North Grove Cemetery.
