Birthplace: Bethesda, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Irene V. Harris, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Irene Verona Harris was born April 21, 1916 in Bethesda, Iowa the daughter of Frank L. and Hilma (Falk) Anderson. She attended country school northwest of Bethesda and then moved to Poplar, Wisconsin. She returned to Iowa at the age of 11 and attended country school north of Red Oak. She was baptized at the Bethesda Lutheran Church and Confirmed at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. Irene attended Red Oak Junior College after high school. In 1933 she was united in marriage to Virgil O. Johnson at Maryville, Missouri. Their marriage was blessed with three children, son, Delaine and two daughters, Jean Arlene and Donnalee Marlene. Irene was employed by the Stanton Grocery until moving to Red Oak where she was employed by the J.C. Penney Company in Red Oak, Shenandoah, and Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Harris at Maryville, Missouri and they made their home in Richland, Missouri. Irene later lived in Smithville, Missouri and Glenwood, Iowa before moving to Red Oak to be near her family after suffering a heart attack. She lived with her grandson Gary Hudson. She was a member of the Stanton American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. She was a participant in the Foster Grandparent Program at the Glenwood State School for many years. She volunteered for the Red Cross Drive and other civic duties through senior citizens in Glenwood, Iowa. She was a dedicated worker making crafts for all occasions and Bingo was a favorite pastime. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Virgil O. Johnson in May 1971; brothers: Dale, Ivan, and Wayne Anderson; sisters: Luella Anderson Chereck; and Gayle Anderson Perkins; son: Virgil Delaine Johnson; grandsons: Keith Hudson and Cary Hudson; and son-in-law: Roger Hudson. Survivors include her daughters: Jean Hudson of Hastings, Iowa; and Donna Morelock and husband Ron of Kansas City, MO; 8 grandchildren: Vel Jean Edie and husband David of Red Oak, IA; Roger Hudson, Jr. "Chip" of Emerson, IA; Gary Hudson of Red Oak, IA; John Michael "Mick Hudson of Hastings, IA; Ronda White of Kansas City, MO; Jackie Tucker and husband Doug of Houston, TX; Donette Kenagy and husband Phil of Kansas City, MO; and Victoria Jones and husband Jeff of St. Louis, MO; 17 great grandchildren: Sean Edie and wife Kari, Dawn Weston and husband Colby, Dustin Edie, Shay Edie, Roger Hudson III "Sonny", Miranda Hudson, Cody Hudson, Tera Hudson, Makayla Hudson, Kaylie Hudson, Bryan Putnam, Justin White, Jeremy White, Joshua White, Austin Tucker, Madison Tucker, and Benjamin Maxwell; 4 great great grandchildren: Savannah Brielle Weston, Tayah Nicolle Weston, Lantana Jean Edie, and Kate Renae Edie; sister: Amy Burrington of Tabor, IA; sisters-in-law: Pearl Anderson of Stanton, IA; and Binnie Anderson of Kempner, TX; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve McKinney officiating. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 PM on Saturday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hasting United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
