Red Oak, Iowa Ida Mae England, age 83, of Red Oak, Iowa completed her work on earth and went to be with Jesus in everlasting life on September 16, 2009. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Society after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ida Mae (Graham) England was born May 15, 1926 in Crestline, Kansas the oldest daughter of Wendell Lloyd and Ida Ethel (Raney) Graham. She graduated from the Pittsburg, Kansas High School in 1944 and was later united in marriage to Ralph England on November 8, 1946 in Pittsburg. Over the years Ralph and Ida Mae have lived in both the Red Oak and Des Moines areas. They moved back to Red Oak for the last time in 1988. While in Red Oak Ida Mae worked for people cleaning their homes, was a cook at Moore's Donut Shop, and worked at the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Company. Ida Mae grew beautiful flowers in her home and yard and her ability to make ill plants flourish was well known. She led a very active social life and spent countless hours volunteering. She was actively involved with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Theta Rho Girls and the JR Lodge Boys. She spent numerous hours collecting money for cancer research and assisted often with the Montgomery County Relay For Life being honored in 2009 as honorary co-chair for the event. Ida Mae was an avid supporter of all veterans and has sent thousands of cookies, candies, and other needed supplies to our active military troops. She was a member of Navy Mothers, Past President of the Red Oak VFW Auxiliary, and assisted with the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor. Ida was Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, Past President of Ladies Encampment Auxiliary, Past President of Patriarchs Militant Auxiliary, and was the President of the Decoration of Chivalry. Ida Mae is also the co-chair of the Rebekah Circle at First Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Gofer Club. Ida Mae will always be remembered for her compassion and ability to love. She always put God, family, and friends before her own wants and needs. The words most often spoke by her were "How may I help?" Ida Mae will be greatly missed by all that had the honor of knowing her. The lessons taught and love given to her family will always be remembered and treasured.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, William Graham, and son, Dennis England. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Ralph England of Red Oak; sons: Daniel England and wife Priscilla of Granger, Iowa; David England and wife Wendy of Urbandale, Iowa; and Donald England and wife Penny of Red Oak; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister: Genevia Trisler of Weir, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, September 21, 2009 at First Christian Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ida Mae England Angel fund.
