Birthplace: Glenwood, IA Resided In: Red Oak, IA Herbert Allard Thomas, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away July 8, 2015 at the Red Oak Healthcare Community after an extended illness. Herb was born April 28, 1930 in Glenwood, Iowa the son of Charles and Harriet (Bridges) Thomas. He was raised in Glenwood and started working at the packing plant in at a young age. He later worked construction and started a long career in tree trimming. He also spent two years in the Iowa Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Eula Wagaman on February 2, 1959 in Sidney, Iowa. They lived in Coin Iowa for a period of time before moving to Red Oak in 1982 where Herb worked at Hawkeye Lumber Company and operated Thomas Tree Service for many years. Over the years he was a member of the Teamsters Union, was a volunteer fireman in Coin, Iowa, and was a member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. He was an avid Nebraska Fan who loved drinking coffee with his friends at the Rainbow and always loved a good piece of fried chicken. He was known to be a good pool player and enjoyed the horse races. Herbs greatest joy came from his family. Preceding him in death were his parents and sister: Helen Irwin. Survivors include his wife: Eula Thomas of Red Oak; children: Ray Thomas and wife Jamie of Red Oak; Deniece Brown and husband Jeff of Villisca; and Rhonda Sirfus of Johnston, IA; grandchildren: Scott Eggleston, Stephanie Reich and husband Shane, Aneissa Thomas, and Zachary Thomas all of Red Oak; Lacy Pond and husband Anthony and Jarred Brown and wife Jordon all of Villisca; and Emma and Joshua Sirfus of Johnston; great grandchildren: Alex, Wiley, Lila, Tyten, Draelyn; and Olivia; brother: Don Thomas of South Dakota; brother-in-law: Richard Wagaman and wife Marcia of Red Oak; sister-in-law: Juanita Gray of New Market, IA; many nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. The family would like to thank the Red Oak Healthcare Community for the excellent care they showed Herb during his stay with them. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
