Birthplace: Bedford, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Herbert Marshall, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, June 18, 2004 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Herbert William Marshall was born May 6, 1927 in Bedford, Iowa the son of Homer and Fannie (Sleep) Marshall. He was raised in Bedford where he attended school. While he was still in high school he served in the United States Navy during WWII. When he returned from the war, he finished high school graduating from Bedford High School. Herbert then attended Simpson College for two years. He worked in a shoe store in Bedford before going to work for the United States Postal Service in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1959. He came to Red Oak, Iowa in the mid 1960's. Herbert was united in marriage to Mary Birkenholz on June 27, 1970 in Maryville, Missouri. He retired from the post office in 1990 after 31 years of service. Herbert was a member of the First United Methodist Church, enjoyed woodworking, and was a sports enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Harold Marshall and Robert "Bob" Marshall; brother-in-law: Yousif Al Jabouri; and sister-in-law: Val Marshall. Survivors include his wife: Mary Marshall of Red Oak, Iowa; son: David Marshall and fiancé Tammie of Johnston, Iowa; three brothers: Franklin Marshall of Addison, Illinois; Richard Marshall and wife Donna of Clarinda, Iowa; and Jim Marshall and wife Dianna of Oakland, Iowa; 2 sisters: Martha Martin and husband George of Bolivar, Missouri; and JoAnn Al Jabouri of Van Nuys, California; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Graveside Committal services will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Parnell, Missouri. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
