Birthplace: Omaha, Nebraska Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Helen "Ruth" Peterson, age 82 of Elliott, Iowa passed away, March 28, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Ruth Peterson was born September 26, 1922 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Oda F. and Mary (Foster) Mason. Ruth grew up in Omaha graduating from South High School in 1940. Ruth met her future husband, Kenneth Peterson, in 1940. Kenneth and Ruth were married January 3, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona, while Kenneth was stationed with the U. S. Army. They returned to the Elliott area where they farmed for nearly 60 years. Ruth was a member of the Elliott Methodist Church where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent, led the children's choir and served with the United Methodist Women. Ruth was a 4-H leader and received many awards for her work with the youth. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family: family dinners, attending sporting events, and playing cards. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, home decorating, painting and refinishing furniture. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elizabeth Johnson; brother, Donald Mason; sisters-in-law: Irene Carlson, Helen Hoffman and Phyllis Franklin; brothers-in-law: Vernon, Maurice and Donald Peterson. Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Peterson of Elliott, IA; daughters: Carolyn Sellars and husband Bill of Burlington, NC; Sharon Solberg and husband Jerry of Red Oak, IA; sons: Kenneth Peterson and wife Jan of Elliott, IA; Daniel Peterson and wife Marcia of Elliott, IA and Timothy Peterson of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Erica Jordan and husband Jay of Clemmons, NC; Dana Prairie of Isabela, Puerto Rico; Michele Kimpson of Jacksonville, FL; Rev. Darrin Kimpson and wife Pamela of Papillion, NE; Amanda Christensen and husband Nick of Cumberland, IA; Shawn Peterson and wife Cheri of Storm Lake, IA; Holly Rittgers and husband Chad of Red Oak, IA; and Becky Peterson of Burlington, IA; great grandchildren: Anna and Emily Jordan, Savanna Nickolaison, Dylan Bohler, Brooke and Maria Kimpson, Paige Rittgers and Ashley Peterson; sister: Eleanor Heikes of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law: Jean Kerr and husband Don of Manilla, IA; Marilyn Limke and husband Jerry of Des Moines, IA; Mary Helen Peterson of Elliott, IA; and Lyra Peterson of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: Jim Franklin of Omaha, NE. Memorial services will be 2 PM Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Elliott Methodist Church with Rev. Darrin Kimpson officiating. Visitation with the family will take place at the Elliott Community Building following the memorial service.
