Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Helen L. Bass, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. Helen Lucille Bass was born April 10, 1919 in Lincoln Township near Wales, Iowa the daughter of W.W. "Bill" and Ruth (Irwin) Jones. She was raised in southwest Iowa graduating from Elliott High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Gordon Bass on December 10, 1939 in Red Oak, Iowa. After their marriage they lived most of their lives on the family farm near Center Ridge in Montgomery County, Iowa until moving into Red Oak in 1984. Helen was a member of the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church where she was an Ordained Ruling Elder. She was a 50+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star and held the position of Past Matron. She was also a member of Christian Women and J.U.G. Club. Helen enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends, square dancing, Sunday rides and family get-togethers. The highlight to any day was a visit from her grandchildren or great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Gordon Bass on March 14, 2006; brothers: Wesley and Darold; and sisters: Lois and Alicia. Survivors include her son: Byron Bass and wife Konnie of Stanton, Iowa; daughter: Janet Lantz and husband Cary of Clarks Summitt, Pennsylvania; 3 grandchildren: Brent Bass and fiancé Jennifer Jackson of Essex, Iowa; Jennifer Bass Jacob and husband Jerry of Phoenix, Arizona; and Sean Lantz and wife Kathy of Belvidere, Illinois; great grandchildren: Hannah, Payten, Camryn, Zachary, SierraAnn, Emma, and Lucy; brother: Edwin Jones and wife Lavina of Mound City, Missouri; sisters-in-law: Ida Mae Jones of Clarinda, Iowa; Helen E. Bass of Pennsylvania; and Mildred Jones of California; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. J. Keith Cook officiating. There will also be Eastern Star services conducted during the funeral. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
