Birthplace: Imogene, Iowa Resided In: Shenandoah, Iowa Hazel Wax, age 84, of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa after an extended illness. Hazel Margaret Wax was born January 20, 1918 near Imogene, Iowa the daughter of James and Leah (Perkins) Nicholas. Hazel was the oldest of five children. She attended country school at the Gulf School in Page County for 2 years, and then went to Shady Dell School for 6 years before transferring to Imogene Public Schools where she graduated in 1935. She attended Nurses Training at the Hand Hospital in Shenandoah. Hazel was a general duty and private duty nurse for 6 years, two of those being in Chicago just before she came back to Imogene in 1945. On December 20, 1945 she was united in marriage to Cecille Wax in Hiawatha, Kansas. They began farming right after their marriage, moving to Emerson in 1951. In 1972 they quit farming and later moved to Shenandoah, Iowa where Hazel continued to do private nursing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah; Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary in Emerson; and was Past President of the Emerson United Methodist Women. She also taught Sunday school and Bible School. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters: Gladys Harris and Evelyn Hall; and a brother: Thomas Nicholas. Survivors include her husband: Cecille Wax of Shenanodah, Iowa; Son: Bill Wax and his wife Denise of Omaha, Nebraska; and a daughter: Marilyn Jensen and her husband David of Farnhamville, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Vallory Wax of Lakewood, Colorado; Tami Wax and Chelsea Wax of Omaha, Nebraska; John Honeyman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Leah Rosado and her husband Luis of Somers, Iowa; and Rachel Honeyman of Farnhamville, Iowa; and Christopher Jensen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; great grandchild: Christian David Rosado; and brother: James Nicholas of Princeton, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, July 22, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Shenandoah United Methodist Church Air-conditioning Fund or the charity of your choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
