Birthplace: Pottawattamie County, Iowa Resided In: Atlantic, IA formerly Griswold, IA Hazel Miller, age 88, of Atlantic, Iowa formerly of Griswold, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 6, 2005 at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Hazel Irene Miller was born May 29, 1916 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa near Griswold the daughter of Viggo and Laura May (Potter) Miller. When Hazel was in eighth grade the family moved to a farm east of Griswold in Cass County. Hazel attended school in Griswold graduating in 1934. While in high school, she received her Normal training. Hazel taught in country schools for 15 years, Cumberland for nine years, and Griswold School System retiring in 1981 after 47 years as a teacher. Throughout the years, she continued her own education graduating from the Omaha University in 1964. Hazel was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, evening church circle, Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She loved teaching, children, gardening and sewing. Preceding her in death were her parents; brother: Ronald Miller; and sister: Helen Sunderman. Survivors include her four nieces: Carolyn Laird and husband Raymond of Elliott, Iowa; Luella Oaks and husband Bob of Logan, Utah; Mary Lynn Langley and husband John of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and JoAnn Bamonte and husband John of Houston, Texas; nephew: Charles Miller and wife Cindy of Griswold, Iowa; sister-in-law: Donis Miller of Houston, Texas; many great nieces and nephews, many great great nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Griswold United Methodist Church with Rev. Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in the Flint Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday, February 10, 2005 at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to the Griswold United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
